The Pointe Academy Dance Ensemble
Dancers in levels 5 and 6 may be invited to be in The Pointe Academy Dance Ensemble performing group.
Involvement in the Ensemble is not required to continue training, but is encouraged for those who have demonstrated a willingness to make the commitment of time and effort.
The Pointe Academy Dance Ensemble’s mission is to produce live dance performances as a way to enhance our community and Iowa’s youth.
- To guide our students to a discovery of the joy and artistry inherent in classical and contemporary dance
- Develop mastery in the technical rigors of the art form
- Produce live dance performances of artistic merit
- Be an integral part of the cultural life of our community.
Since our debut in 2002 The Pointe Academy Dance Ensemble, under the direction of Albert and Elizabeth Adams, has self-produced over a dozen full-length evening concerts of dance. Our most recent collaboration was with Simpson College Opera in a stellar production of “Die Fledermaus” by composer Johann Strauss. In April of 2011 we joined forces with local composer Ben Allaway in his grand choral masterwork “A Celtic Mass” at First Christian Church. It went on to tour several cities in Europe and was recently aired on Iowa Public Television during their spring fund drive.
The Ensemble has also appeared with Des Moines Metro Opera, Rebecca Gruber’s production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” at St Paul’s Cathedral, numerous arts festivals and was featured in 2003 on IPTV’s “Living in Iowa.”
Over the past 17 years many of our dancers have found success dancing in professional ballet companies and top university dance programs around the country having been recognized among the elite ballet performers in central Iowa.
